7 days dogsledding expedition

Day 1: Arrival to Uummannaq, picked up at the heliport and meeting with the host and guide.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Uummannaq, preparation for the tour, contact with the dogs, feeding.

Day 3: Doglsedding to Saattut and accommodation in Saattut. Taking care the dogs, visiting friends, incl. breakfast and lunch in the nature, dinner in Saattut.

Day 4: Saattut, dogs free, hiking in the settlement, visiting the locals, ice fishing, taking care of the dogs, incl. breakfast, lunch and dinner.

8 hours in Uummannaq Fjord

We will start sailing to the Qilakitsoq here there will be a history lesson about the findings of mumies and how Inuit lived a that time. Then we will sail to The desert here is not like anywhere else in Greenland it is like you are just landing on the moon and you can find 1.5 bill. years old stones. After we have been in The desert we will sail to the 1000 meters high vertical mountain. Before we sailing home to Uummannaq we will visit the settlement Saattut where you can wetness fishing and hunting community everyday life.

You can book our boat for 10 hours with starting point in Uummannaq and ends in Uummannaq. Homeport for our boat is Uummannaq. But it doesn’t mean that we can’t sail to another town. Our boat is approved to sail 2000 km in Greenlandic west coast.

Climate tour in Uummannaq

We will start sailing from Uummannaq to Itilliarsuup Kangerlua. And on the way we will go on land at Saattut, where we ask one of the local fisherman how the weather and conditions was for 10 years ago. After half an hour in Saattut we will sail to our final destination. Here you can see where the glacier was for couple of years ago, so there will be a time to see how much ice it has melted.

Cruise in Uummannaq

We will start sailing into the Uummannaq Fjord and going on land for a while at The desert. Here you can find 1.5 billion years old stones, here is no one else like in Greenland. Then we will sail to the high vertical mountain Qaqullussuit where hundreds of birds breeding. After we have been in Qaqullussuit we will sail to Uummannaq and the boat will sail north of the heard shaped mountain.

Deep sea fishing in Uummannaq

The fjords around Uummannaq are very deep. Some of the area reaches down to 1500 meters. These fjords are rich with fishlife like, halibut, red fish, catfish, cod, greenlandic halibut and many more. There is also a good chance to catch a Greenlandic shark. During the summer when the caplin swim into the shores of the coast, there will be a lot of activity. You can see small fishing boats and fishing ships sailing night and day.If you like to go for a deep sea fishing, we can take you to the best spots in the area. Geology tour to Maarmorilik

Would you like to experience unforgettable sailing to the old mine called Maarmorilik, also known as The Black Angel mine. In 1933 it began mining marble and it lasted all the way to 1973. After a geological survey in the area, it appears there are zinc, iron, lead and silver on the other side of the fjord. Then they made a cable car leading to the mine “Black Angel” up in the mountain 750 meters high. On the way to the Maarmorilik we will stop at a place where there has been marble mining even before they moved to Maarmorilik.

Icefishing in Uummannaq

Other than, trying dogsledding during the winter in Uummannaq you have to try fishing on the ice. You can catch the tasty and the sought after Greenlandic halibut that you can cook when you come back from the tour. But there can also be other fish at the hook, like redfish and catfish. Here you can experience winter landscape with lot of sun and with the heard shaped mountain Uummannaq at the background. We will use an iron about 40 – 50 cm long with a hook on it and up to 300 meters long line so it won’t be easy to pulling up the line 200 – 300 meters from the bottom of the sea. We will use snowmobiles for transportation.

Midnight sun in Uummannaq

Sailing to Qarajaq Glacier

In 1860’s came a man to Qarajaq from the nearest settlement and he came for Qarajaq to stay. He became a solid nucleus in the population where they stayed more than hundred years. The man was a great hunter named Tivagdlarge(Tivallaqqi) christen name Bernhard Andreassen. After couple hour is Qarassap Imaa we will sail to a settlement Ikerasak. Here you will see fishermen and hunters everyday life, but also how the locals spent the summer. When we sailing home there will be a good chance to see some whales.

Sailing to The desert

We will sail into one of many Uummannaq Fjords among many beautiful icebergs. On the way there will be a good chance to see whales or other sea mammals. The desert is a unique mineral landscape, with high in sulphur and iron content have reacted to produce a deposit yellow landscape. In the desert you can find very rare stones where it dated to 1.5 billions years old.
